General

At a distance of half a century, Hotel Splendid is a jewel of elegance, atmosphere of hospitality and care. Here, in 1873, was born the tradition of hospitality of the Zacchera family. The only hotel with private beach on Lake Maggiore, the Splendid also has a private pier. The fully equipped wellness area, a restaurant with panoramic terrace and a bar open on the “square”, overlooking the lake, complete its refined personality. Rooms are elegant and spacious with carpeted or wood floors and classic furniture. They offer a balcony with lake or mountain views, a flat-screen TV, laptop-sized safe and minibar. Each has a private bathroom with hairdryer and toiletries. The restaurant serves Italian cuisine. It features an outdoor terrace and has panoramic views of Lake Maggiore and the Borromean Islands. The pool at the Splendid Hotel features a hydromassage area. Guests also have a fitness centre with sauna. Baveno Port is 600 m away for boat trips across the lake to Verbania and the islands.

Maggiore Lake

Maggiore Lake

Maggiore Lake is located in North Italy, at the border with Switzerland. It’s one of the many precious places to be discovered in Italy and the beauty of the place is doubled by the baroque architecture of the hotels that remind of a peaceful life by the lake. In the heart of the lake are located three islands: Isola Bella, Isola Maggiore and Isola dei Pescatori that will leave you in awe during our excursions on the lake. The Isola Maggiore and Isola Bella belong to one of the oldest families in Italy: the Borromeo, who also named the islands called Borromeo islands. This family, starting from the XVI th century had control of the lake through the Visconti ruling over Milan. The family in centuries of power have built astonishing buildings in the middle of the lake that today can be visited by our boat tours. Nevertheless, all the area is of great interest for its forests and the high Alps that make the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable landscape. Two more locations to be visited are the Rocca of Angera of the Borromeo family on the southeastern side of the lake (reachable only by boat tours) and the Eremo of Saint Catherine. The Eremo is a monastery built on the eastern shoreside of the lake. The monastery’s nuns during their daily chores create homemade medicines for many health problems by utilizing the plants from their gardens. A visit to this place of holiness and peace should not be missed.
