Siena, as its bigger sister Florence, is one of the most famous cities of Tuscany region. It is located in the heart of Tuscany hills and its location has helped during the centuries to display the small town as one of the propelling engines of the Italian Renaissance. Home to one of the world renowned saints (Catherine from Siena), the small town has its own peculiar soul. The symbol of the city is the black and white shield called Balzana. They say that the unpredictable mood of the Senese people is related to the color transformations over the local emblem. Siena has long fought against Florence for the supermacy over this part of Italy, and has kept many traditions of the past conflicts. In fact, in Siena during the Summer, there takes place the famous “Palio di Siena,” where the local “clans” compete against each other in a crazy horse riding competition in the heart of the town. The Palio is scheduled in July and in August. During those weeks the small town is full of curious people that want to discover who will be the winner of the year.
