Gubbio is a small town in the Umbria region, recognized as the green heart of Italy. The small town is situated on a hill and is well recognized for the beautiful middle age towers and high defensive walls. Saint Francis spent much of his time in this small town where the legend of the wolf and the saint took place. Once the saint was praying in the woods and met a giant wolf, whom mesmerized by the prayer of the Saint decided to lay gently at his feet. Many take pilgrimages to Gubbio yearly to walk in the steps of the same paths in the countryside of Gubbio as Saint Francis. The town had a difficult past due to its strategic position in the center of Italy and many have fought to rule over it. It is a must-see-place for all those ones who look for deep understanding of nature combined with medieval architecture. And of course, we will not forget the typical cuisine and the curious unsalted bread, which derives from the tradition of the Church during the times of an overpowering Pope.
